>>>
i remember this. i had just had a cast removed on the 3rd. i was in manly iowa for the christmas holiday, and ended up being stranded there. i somehow had enough money to make it to new york on a flight outta mason city. i'll have to do a bowl to elaborate further on this one.

my sister and me

my sister has managed to get $2,000.00 for signing off on a trust that i'll probably never need. then she got another $4,000.00 to pay down her debt (she's going to put my new mac on her credit card and *supposedly* pay me the difference). this is on top of my lending her my laptop so her new adopted children can have a computer. all in all, she's got about 7200 bux from me. and here i sit wondering how i'm going to get to the barber.

there's a long story about my family, and especially my sisters, and ESPECIALLY since dad died. i'll save those for another time.

and archie is all upset over everybody referring to him getting older. he ends up leaving everybody at home in the middle of dinner, and heads down to kelsey's bar, where he hopes to surround himself with people that won't remind him of his age.

gets down to the bar and one of his old neighbors walks in and archie was amazed at how young the guy looked, and was surprised that the guy didn't know him. i'm archie bunker. oh yeaaaah, archie bunker. hell i thought you were dead, was what the guy said. i swear, reminded me of when gary anderson, my cousin, first saw me in burke's, when i first came back from new york, and exclaimed how he thought i was dead.

"i thought you were dead" - the same exact words they were. sent shivers throughout my body. especially now that i'm having these visions of what its like to not be of physical self. not being able to touch my surroundings, and how i 'want' to ..... the very feeling of 'want' is so vivid, it's freeky.

January 28, 1978

KANSAS CITY, MO
1978 January 28th. Fire in the Coates House Hotel; 28 people died

what i remember of the time surrounding the coates house fire is being in kansas city screwing the owner of the Club Baths. between living at the bathhouse, and at the main house, i also worked at a middle eastern restaurant on the plaza, and was charged with bugging the owners with telephone pranks. met this lawyer who took my case, and he and his lover introduced me to the wonderful effects of an alcoholic enema. anyway, i ended up quitting the bathhouse, and finding a real job somewhere, taking a room at the coates house. at the time i lived there, it was a dying piece of history, with a grand entrance and lobby. the fire was started by a disgruntled employee who got fired. after the fire however, things did change for me.

i took a position with the American Red Cross, and working in disaster services, i saw my share of disasterous events. didn't do that for very long for some reason, and left kansas city for... i really have no idea right now. i'll have to wait and go back to the master outline. at least i can say i knew where i was on january 28, 1978.

April 1, 1969

I'm at a loss as to how I should start my book. Should I begin with 'the beginning' of my birth? Or would 'the beginning' of my gay life Ibe more appropriate? Being as that my gay life has been forefront and center to everything that has happened in my life for the last 30 years, I think maybe I can take a date and run with it.

April 1, 1969. The numbers alone are worth investigating. Not ever having any training in numerology, I can only attest to the heartfelt feelings I have about that date. It was on that day my family moved to Manly Iowa. We left Mason City behind like it was a bad apple. Manly was going to be where we would start anew, whatever needed to be 'new-alized', maybe it was me. I was getting into some minor theft before then, mostly candy & cakes at the store for school lunch.

But Manly was where we were going to start fresh, and since there was really no opportunity in Manly for me to steal, the hope was that I would grow up to be the man my dad wanted me to be.

So, April 1, 1969, shortly before my 13th birthday,

This is murphy drawing a picture of the nike symbol so it will look like i got high sneakers on. she did a bang up job if i remember right. we were a real family back then. murph was also the one who would go into fareway (the local grocery store) limping like her big brother, jus so i wouldnt feel alone. kinda nice. oh the days. its not like that any more. and i really am saddened by it.

Funkeytown

memphis. 1980.
this was on my way back into the midwest to get into treatment. i was dj'n at a bar, and they sold it to some straight owners who turned it into a straigh establishment. so i was outta job, and my friend who brought me to memphis out of little rock, got me a quualude on the way to packing my stuff. downed another one right before jumping on the train to chicago. 11pm. the first one kicks in when the whistle blew.

here i am on my way to chicago, with everything i own, just coming out of a gig in memphis that didn't turn out the way i had hoped. lots of nice butt, but little in way of intel. sooo, i played along and did that here today, gone tomorrow thing with them.

while on the train, i end up believing that we're headin into chicago, or somewhere, because the next thing i remember (prior to this season) is waking up in the club baths in st. louis, on gay day, where the leaders in the parade are the staff of the club baths.

now being an ex-employee of the club baths, is not only prestigious in it's own right, but a good way of striking up conversation. anyway, i spent (here on are recollectionss of others) the night at the baths, even went out with the management, and dj'd in some club. really tearing up, is about the only thing i vividly remember. fan dancing was yet to be introduced to the midwest. but there was enough sweat comin outta my pores to turn the place into a swimming pool.

after wakikng up, and being told all that had happened from the time i checkd in - evidently, i got off the train in carbondale, and took a bus to st. louis, then taxid to the nearest bath house. routine business back then.

i remember the parade especiallly well now too.

I love Music

by the o'jays.

las vegas. had to be 1975.
yup. and those were the days when just about anything was available, nobody had this 'just say no' attitude, and everybody got along.

but i love music holds a special meaning to me.

everytime i hear it, i would always remember me and the kid from las vegas, the mexican, rudy. that's it. rudy. he was a hottie. i could dig up a few pics of men that look like him. anyway, we HITCHED out of las vegas, me, rudy, and that kid from queens, god wats his name dammit. i'll remember it as i go on.

anyway, ya, we hitched out of las vegas. rudy lost his job and i jus told the hotel i worked at (jokey club) to find another guy. i made a lot of money doing massages in las vegas. i was known all over the city. recommended highly by almost everybody. which helps in a city like las vegas.

anyway, rudy and i were a team. we danced the contest at the gay bar in vegas and won. then we were going to ... oh my i cant remember now.

this is what age does to ya. blanks you out. thank GOD for zoundry. they almost have my cum.

  • first time - from marshalltown while go-go dancing, with some leader of AIM - american indian movement

Des Moines, IA
  • first time - tree collier (tree's talent agency)
  • renee & becky stonehocker
  • second time (?) in hotel, working at blue cross/blue shield in ruan bldg, got tired of workin the temp scene, and went to the bathroom, decided to screw it all, and left, and an hour later, i was on the road hitchhiking west.
  • third time - working the cab circuit; ending up fallin for some con artist from 'hawaii' and we were going to go back there - ended up in las vegas, he stole a car, and we got caught right before christmas in orange county CA.  i was extradicted back, but charges were dropped.  wow.  that'll take some pot to get out the memories on that.  i need a way of marking these so i can come back to remember them.
  • lived in a shelter for a while on one trip coming back to iowa from new york, and was wanting to get into cherokee.  so that's mid-spring 1986.  i think.
  • lived in YMCA - dont remember much about that at all either; except that there were no hotties.
  • before i went to san francisco, was dancing at the gay bar and omid took me down from marshalltown.  that was my coming out if you will.  i knew the bartender at the tallcorn kept talkin about taking me to a place "where men danced together" and it was somewhat jilting, but only for a moment.  i know i made a lot of trips between marshalltown & des moines with the 2 girls from the massage parlor
New York NY
boy oh boy this is gonna REALLY require some decent pot.
  • first time - hitching from ames to des moines with everything i owned in a 10x10x10 box and a dime in my pocket, enough to make the call in des moines to tree and get the name of the place i was to go dance.  where i was coming from, is storm lake i believe.  and i could have ended up actually going to des moines and it would have changed the course of history.  as it is, i took that last ride in iowa on I-35, only going 35 miles, when the guy was going all the way to scarsdale new york.  it took a few minutes, but i decided, and asked kindly, to go along.  and that story is a hair-raiser in and of itself.  but back to the structure of the task at hand.  i got dropped off at 72nd and lexington, and stuffed the box in some bushes behind some 65 story apartment building and headed to the nearest gay bar.  if memory serves me right, i didnt have far to go.  and i'm sure i got picked up and that basically started my first go-around in the city.  i think i was so star-struck that most of those ventures left me numb and without memory.
  • second time - boy, i need some pot before i dive into this one.
  • third time - same thing here.
  • Felix Goacachea (FG management) - deserves a whole chapter to himself.
  • Manny Parrish - boy oh boy, this one deserves a complete separate book.  but for now, lemme jus copy down what's on the sheet.
    • 400 west 14th street - our loft.  pictures will be posted forewith.
    • Bobby Baum - manny's boyfriend who was a freak and a half.  didnt like me too much, but i think that settled on his jealousy more than anything else.
    • studio
    • importe 12 - the first label that signed us.
    • shows - this could be a really hair raising chapter.  for now, just the notes on the sheet:
      • Fun House - new years eve
      • Red Parrot - with madonna & grandmaster flash - billboard reviewed the show, and gave us 3 paragraphs, and madonna 3 lines.  it was the highlight of my career.
      • ice skating rink in brooklyn - god only knows what this was
      • camden nj - a show we did where i had to blow manny in the van before we went on so he would be ok
      • DJ animal - god i wish i could remember him, cuz i know i got memories of him.
      • studeio 54 - star wars party.  the real highlight of my career.

god it takes forever, and i'm not exactly sure if i realy wanna spend #30-0on this computer. i cant see the screen, its a dark screenoh

oh SHIT... ijus did the upthing on the contrast, and wow, what a difference. what a huge difference.

worth spending $300 on it?

i dunno. i'm gonna have to get use to this somehow enough so that i'll not be feelin guilty afterward. my leg is kinda hurtin.

although, typing is somewhat easy. its easy to transcribe what i'm thinkin. which is what i need to do. voice is out. i cant have it silent in here. although, the idea of getting dictaphone, actually if i could:

1. get one of those voice recorders 200
2. get dragon preferred. 189.

see, so we're lookn at 400 already. but it could work.

Sergeant Ahearn & Ven Heemstra

law firm that was once on the 44th floor of the pan am building.
where i started doing word processing. lied to the temp recruiter when she sent me out. musta ben 1981 cuz i was livin with manny then. that was where i was working when hip hop be-bop was first played on the radio, i remember that vividly.

i was going back to work from lunch, walking on 45th, which led to the west side of the pan am building. and i couldn't help but run into the street (i had my walkman on), and scream as loud as i could. that i finally made it.

i finally got back into the office and was rushing to tell everybody, while trying to get manny on the phone. he was kinda hard to get a hold of, but it was early, my 4pm was his 4am. anyway, got him on the phone and couldn't stop screaching.

ya, ahearn, who was the head of the ny office (they had one in switzerland and one elsewhere, i cant remember) killed himself (or was murdered) in the 80's. i had found out by reading about it in the paper.

PRE-1990 compiled by day

this will separate the pre-1990 diary entries from the rest. blogger.com doesn't seem fit to recognize any year prior to 1990.

so, in keeping with the established protocol... i will be maintaining title/date correlation, and will figure out a system to use for the date fields.

i spoze i could manually insert a timedate stamp and use it whereever i import.

hm

hm, that could work i spoze.

Prelude to the Story

wow, since 3/8, nothing. that's not good, but it's not like i've done nothing.

in fact, i've been quite busy, posting to poopy.

but i need to get this started. i think tonite, i'll make a schedule, and starting tomorrow, i'll have a job lined out. tonite tho i think i'll try and get the chapters down, and drawn. that's gotta be the first step in this process.

second, is getting all the data together. actually, this is going to be the biggest job of this project. collecting all that data, especially when it deals with events during the 1974-1980 timeframe. boy, those years are only ghostly memories, 3 of which i couldn't tell you if i wanted to, where i was, what i was doing, and who with.

i do have enough diaries dating back to 1986 i think. ya. or maybe earlier. i'll have to look again. but i do have telephone records dating back to 86. i think when i landed in the amsterdam hotel is when it all kinda started iwth the phone company. that was the first time i had a phone hooked up in my name. i was so proud of myself. but the amsterdam is full of horrific memories, and will titilate even the most jaded person.

well, enough of the small talk. lets get on with the show.

the beginning of the booQ.

don't exactly know where this will lead, and i'm not sure how i'm even going to proceed, but this will be the dumping ground for the manuscript of "THE.HITCHHIKER", the story of a traveler, a camillion among people, the world according to Q.

no doubt politics will play a role, as will religion, and sex. music will be provided at no extra charge.

however, the thrust, and i use the word unsparingly, will be directed towards conveying that human life, with all it's holiness, and sinfulness, is only but one part of the larger picture. some call it heaven and God, some don't. i'm in the camp that does neither. there is a God. but it's nothing near what most people think He is. but that'll be covered much more deeply as we get along further on down the road of life, with the.Hitchiker.
